Masin, (Ahafo), April 16, GNA – Mr Charles Akwasi Asiedu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano South in the Ahafo Region has warned the community members against engaging in illegal mining in the area.
He emphasised that any farmer, landowner or individual in the area who aided especially Chinese nationals to undertake illegal mining would not be spared.
The MP noted that illegal mining remained a serious offence, saying that perpetrators of the environmental crime would be prosecuted accordingly. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Masin, a farming community in the area, Mr Asiedu said the government was strongly against illegal mining and would do everything possible to stem the menace.
He also appealed to the community members to support the government to stem illegal mining by remaining watchful and report suspected illegal mining activities to the security services or the Tano South Municipal Assembly.
Mr Asiedu said with support from the community members, he and together with Mr Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive and the security services would be able to stem illegal mining in the area.
