Accra, March 7, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Peace Council (GARPC) on Tuesday urged the public to comply with the ban on noisemaking imposed by the Ga Traditional Council.
In statement copied to Ghana News Agency, the Council advised religious bodies, political parties, traditional rulers, and civil society organisations in the affected areas to maintain the sanctity of the period which begins May 4 to June 4, 2026.
Rt. Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Peace Council, said violations of the ban should be reported to the relevant authorities and treated with restraint.
The one-month ban on drumming and noisemaking is observed for reflection, spiritual cleansing, and customary rites within the Ga communities, ahead of the Homowo festival.
“The GARPC recognises the cultural and spiritual importance of observance, which forms an integral part of the identity and heritage of our people,” the statement said.
“The Peace Council, therefore, calls on all citizens, residents, and visitors within affected jurisdictions to respect and adhere to the ban on drumming and all forms of noisemaking during the stipulated period.”
It advised religious bodies to refrain from using musical instruments, loudspeakers, and other noise-generating equipment in public and private spaces, adding that political activities, social gatherings, and commercial activities do not violate the terms of the ban.
“The Peace Council further appeals to the security agencies and law enforcement bodies to collaborate with traditional authorities to ensure peaceful compliance with the ban throughout the period,” the statement said.
“We urge all parties to approach any infractions with restraint and in a manner that preserves peace and promotes dialogue.”

The Ga Traditional Council’s annual ban on drumming and noise-making (from May 4 to June 4) is to observe the Ga state’s traditional Homowo festival preparations.
The ban prohibits loud music, musical instruments, funerals, and loud religious services, enforced by a task force and police to ensure peace and spiritual reflection.
