Accra, April 19, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully contained and extinguished a warehouse fire at the South Industrial Area in Accra, with no casualties recorded.
The incident occurred on Saturday, April 18, and involved a top-floor warehouse of a one-storey building, owned by Believe in God Company, which deals in plastic disposable materials.
A statement from the GNFS said the fire was reported at 1810 hours, prompting a swift response from firefighters at the Industrial Area Fire Station, who arrived at the scene at 1816 hours.
It said reinforcements were subsequently deployed from the National Headquarters, Accra City, Trade Fair, and Madina Fire Stations.
A Turn-Table Ladder from Tema was also dispatched to support the operation.
The GNFS said through coordinated firefighting efforts, the blaze was confined at 2223 hours, brought under control at 2328 hours, and fully extinguished at 2347 hours.
It said the fire partially destroyed plastic disposable materials stored in the warehouse and caused damage to the top floor of the building.
However, firefighters were able to salvage the ground floor, adjoining shops, and nearby structures, preventing the fire from spreading further.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, the statement said.
It noted that the cause was yet to be determined as investigations were currently underway.
The GNFS urged the public, especially business owners and warehouse operators, to adhere strictly to fire safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.
