Updates: Independence Day celebrations across the country

Accra, Mar 6, GNA – Ghanaians have marked the country’s 69th Independence anniversary with parades across the major cities.

The celebration was on the theme: “Building Prosperity, Restore Hope”.

In Accra, the capital, President John Dramani Mahama, in his address, urged Ghanaians to place the nation above their personal ambitions.

The event, which was held at the forecourt of the Presidency in Accra had as the special guest of honour Dr Terrance Michael Drew, the Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis with his wife, Diani Jinesha Prince-Drew.

Also in attendance were First Lady Lordina Mahama, Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, former Presidents: John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.


The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takoro, inspected the Independence Day parade.

A total of 13 schools in the Tamale Metropolis, including Senior High Schools, Junior High Schools and Primary Schools participated in the parade.



Madam Ebi Bright, the Municipal Chief Executive of Tema Metropolitan Assembly, inspected the Independence Day parade.
