Turkey has joined US-Iran mediation efforts, ruling party says

Istanbul, March 25, (dpa/GNA) – Turkey is involved in efforts to mediate an end to the Iran war, a senior official from the ruling AKP party said on Wednesday, citing ongoing contacts with both Iran and the US.

Ankara has for some time been relaying messages between the two sides to ease tensions, and help prepare the ground for talks, Harun Armagan, AKP deputy chair for foreign relations, told dpa.

He cautioned however that a venue for potential direct negotiations as not yet been determined. Pakistan is also reportedly playing a mediating role in efforts to end the war launched by Israel and the US on February 28.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry declined to comment.

Earlier, Iran’s military leadership dismissed reports that Tehran was involved in negotiations to end the war.

Pakistani officials and US media, including Axios and The New York Times, reported that Washington has presented Tehran with a 15-point plan to end the conflict, conveyed via Pakistan, which would require significant concessions from the Iranian leadership.
