Pakyi N0. 1, (Ash), March 16, GNA – Mr Prince Manu Morris Amansie West District Chief Executive (DCE) has urged residents of Pakyi No. 1 and 2, to put aside their political differences and support the national sanitation campaign initiative by the government.
He said the fight against diseases must be a collective responsibility that transcended partisan lines, adding that, maintaining a clean environment was essential for the health and wellbeing of communities, and therefore, sanitation initiatives should not be influenced by political affiliations.
Speaking to journalists after joining the chiefs and people of Pakyi No.1 and 2 in a clean-up exercise in the communities, Mr Morris, noted that, diseases affected everyone regardless of their political beliefs, urging residents to work together to keep their surroundings clean.
“Let us all bury our political differences and support the national sanitation exercise because diseases do not discriminate based on political colours.
When we keep our environment clean, we protect ourselves, our families, and our entire community,” the DCE stated.
He urged residents to make environmental cleanliness a continuous practice rather than limiting their participation to occasional clean-up exercises.
According to him, sustained sanitation efforts were necessary to prevent the spread of diseases and improve the overall living conditions of people in the district.
Mr Morris said the District Assembly was considering the introduction of bye-laws that would compel residents to actively participate in sanitation exercises.
He warned that individuals who refused to take part in such community initiatives may face sanctions once the bye-laws were implemented.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for Pakyi No. 1, highlighted several development challenges facing the area.
He pointed out that, a stalled classroom block project in the community required urgent attention and appealed for support to ensure its completion to improve educational infrastructure for local school children.
He also called for the establishment of a Town Council in the area.
According to him, the creation of such a structure would help ensure that sanitation activities were effectively monitored and enforced to maintain cleanliness in the community.
He noted that the completion of the community’s Astroturf facility would significantly boost sporting activities and create opportunities for youth engagement and development.
Water shortage was also identified as a major challenge confronting residents in the area.
The Assembly Member appealed to the DCE to intervene and assist the community in addressing the water problem to improve access to clean and reliable water.
On his part, the Assembly Member for Pakyi No. 2, Alex Donkor, commended the District Assembly for organising the sanitation exercise and for its continued efforts to promote environmental cleanliness across the district.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the DCE, and the government to come to the aid of residents of the Pakyi No.2 electoral area, particularly regarding the deplorable state of the road network, which continued to affect movement and economic activities in the community.
He called for the provision of waste bin containers to help improve refuse collection and waste management in the area, explaining that such support would greatly enhance sanitation efforts and help keep the community clean.
