Sunyani, (Bono), March 25, GNA – Madam Esther Ndamanie, a Senior Public Health Nurse and Midwife at the Sunyani Municipal Directorate of Health, has advised the public to reduce the intake of sugar and salt to live longer lives.
She said many were battling with diabetes and hypertension and related chronic diseases because of their disregard to health counseling and advice, urging everybody to exercise regularly and avoid eating late.
Mad Ndamanie gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of free health screening exercise in Sunyani and urged the public to check what they ate and avoid junk and fatty foods.
The Sunyani St Anselm’s Anglican Child and Youth Development Center (CYDC) in collaboration with the Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate organised the free health screening exercise as part of activities to mark the observance of the Ghana Month.
It offered an opportunity for the beneficiaries, mostly aged women, to know their various health conditions and take precautionary measures and they were screened for diabetes and hypertension as Body Mass Index.
Madam Ndamanie noted that the Sunyani Health Directorate was recording a rise in cases of diabetes and hypertension even involving minors, saying that with good eating habits those cases could be brought under control.
Mr Duodu Bimpong, the Director of the St Anselm’s CYDC told the GNA that the Centre had 260 inmates, saying that it organised the observance of the Ghana month every year to enlighten inmates on the rich and diverse Ghanaian cultural heritage and tradition.
To mark the Ghana Month, inmates, dressed in traditional Kente cloth and beads performed cultural displays, poetry recitals as well as traditional drumming and dancing.
