Accra, March 13, GNA – Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Inspector-General of Police, has deployed a special team to Gbiniyiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region following reprisal attacks in the area.
Renewed clashes between the Brifos and Fulanis have reportedly left five people dead, with several others, including a child, sustaining gunshot wounds.
A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said the team, made up of intelligence officers and investigators, was supporting the Regional Command to strengthen security and bring the perpetrators to justice.
It said calm had been restored in the community, while efforts were underway to arrest those behind the attacks.
The disturbances are believed to be reprisal attacks following a robbery incident allegedly involving unidentified assailants.
Initial reports indicated two fatalities and two injuries, but subsequent checks with hospital authorities and community leaders suggested the casualty figures could be higher.
