Offinso North MP launches ASAP

Akumadan (Ash), March 9, GNA – Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso North of the Ashanti Region, has unveiled a special education development package, dubbed,”Anidaso Students Assistantship Program (ASAP),” for the youth of the constituency. 

The initiative, the first of its kind in the area, aims at giving financial support to the youth to enable them to pursue tertiary education without stress. 

Dr Asamoah in a speech at the launch which coincided with the Ghana’s 69th Independence Day celebration said, “We’re not only celebrating today, but preparing our youth for the future.” 

He added, “Development does not start from Accra or the bigger towns, but from the polling stations, electoral areas, and other lower communities.”  

The MP noted that most of the Ghanaian youth have great potentials to develop and transform their lives and impact positively on society, and that the solution to the nation’s socio-economic challenges were right with the people at the community level. 

Dr. Asamoah indicated that by the next ten to 20 years, most young persons in the constituency might have attained higher academic and career qualifications and compete well in the local and international job markets, and impact positively on their communities, the nation and the world at large. 

He explained that under the ASAP, each prospective tertiary student from the constituency, shall receive a minimum of GHc2,000 financial assistance annually. 

The launch, which climaxed a day’s Youth Forum, saw the MP leading participants to discuss the following thematic areas of youth development: youth challenges and opportunities; skills development and entrepreneurship; agriculture, as a business for the youth; youth participation in governance; and youth innovation challenge. 

The forum attracted many young persons from various communities in the constituency, and was graced by several dignitaries, including Messrs Charles Abugri, Martin Addo Fordjour, Mogman Johnson- Presiding Member, Offinso North District Assembly, Offinso North District Director of Education and Offinso North Constituency Chairman of the NPP, respectively.
