Bolgatanga, March 15, GNA – Delegates of the Upper East Regional chapter of the Nurse and Midwives Educators’ Society of Ghana (N&MES–Ghana) have elected new executives to steer the affairs of the Society for the next four years.
The newly elected six-member executive board is led by Mr Charles Adimi, a tutor at the Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC) in Zuarungu.
He garnered 18 out of 24 valid votes to defeat Mr Moses Salifu Duut, a tutor at the Nursing Training College (NTC) in Bolgatanga, who polled six votes for the chairmanship.
In a unanimous decision, all 24 delegates drawn from various Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges across the region endorsed Mr Edwin Nboba Azieko, an unopposed candidate from the NTC, Bolgatanga, for the First Vice-Chair position.
No candidate contested the Second Vice-Chairman position in the election, which was supervised by Mr Emmanuel Kuulangere Tie, the group’s Assistant National Secretary.
For the Secretary position, Madam Mabel Suma-Amineng Faanye of the Midwifery Training College, Bolgatanga, polled 18 votes to secure the seat against Mr David Asinvim of the NMTC, Zuarungu.
Mr Jacob Maayeb Wein, from the Community Health Nursing Training College in Navrongo, was elected Public Relations Officer (PRO) with 18 votes, while Mr George Awuni of the Presbyterian Nursing Training College in Bawku garnered six votes.
Mr Aloysius Ali Angliengmene, the National Chairman of the Society, in a speech read on his behalf, congratulated the newly elected officials and thanked the immediate past executive board for their dedicated service.
He commended the Regional Election Committee for the successful and transparent process, stating, “Your commitment to a fair, orderly, and transparent process demonstrates the professionalism, unity, and integrity that define this noble society.”
He praised the region for being the first to successfully conduct its election, noting, “This remarkable achievement sets a commendable example for other regions to emulate. By taking this bold and timely step, you have demonstrated leadership, organizational strength, and a deep commitment to the growth and sustainability of the society.”
Mr Angliengmene reminded the newly elected executives that leadership within a professional society was about service rather than privilege and urged them to lead with humility and integrity.
“Always remember that true leadership is about serving your members and not being served by them. Listen to their concerns, represent their interests faithfully, and work tirelessly to strengthen the society,” he said.
In his victory speech, the newly elected Chairman, Mr Adimi, expressed gratitude to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and the other executives and assured members that the new leadership would work diligently to revitalize the group within the region.
