Manhyia South MP launches ‘Soloku’ festival in Kumasi

Kumasi March 24, GNA – Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has launched the maiden edition of ‘Soloku’ festival a transformative community cultural initiative designed to strengthen social cohesion, celebrate cultural heritage, and stimulate local economic growth within the constituency. 

The ceremony, which attracted residents, community leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders from across Manhyia South, marked the beginning of what is expected to become a flagship annual festival in the area.  

The ‘Soloku’ festival seeks to unite people from diverse backgrounds through engaging activities that highlight the rich cultural identity and vibrant talents of the community. 

Speaking to journalists at the official launch at Krofrom, Mr Awuah, underscored the critical role of unity in driving sustainable development. 

He explained that the festival was conceived as a unifying platform to bring residents together beyond social, ethnic, and political differences. 

According to him, fostering togetherness remained essential to building a progressive and inclusive society. 

He noted that, while the festival offered entertainment and recreation, it also served a strategic economic purpose. 

The initiative is expected to create opportunities for small-scale enterprises, local artisans, and traders to showcase their products and services, thereby enhancing livelihoods and promoting grassroots economic empowerment. 

Mr Awuah emphasized that, preserving cultural heritage was central to the development agenda of the constituency and indicated that, the ‘Soloku’ festival would play a vital role in reviving traditional practices, promoting indigenous arts, and instilling a sense of pride among the youth. 

He added that the festival aligned with his broader vision of empowering constituents through initiatives that combine culture, innovation, and economic advancement. 

Additionally, the cooking competition provides an avenue for residents, particularly women and culinary enthusiasts, to exhibit their skills by preparing a variety of local dishes.  

This segment is expected to promote indigenous cuisine while supporting food-related businesses within the constituency. 

Other activities include a tug of war contest that promotes teamwork and physical endurance, a table tennis competition designed to deliver thrilling and competitive action, and a cards competition that challenges participants’ strategic thinking and skill in a lively and engaging environment. 

The event is open to the public, with organizers promising exciting prizes for winners across all competition categories. 

They have also assured participants of a well-organized, vibrant, and inclusive atmosphere that encourages maximum community involvement. 

As anticipation continues to build, the ‘Soloku’ festival is poised to become a landmark event in Manhyia South, reflecting the unwavering commitment of the MP in promoting unity, preserving culture, and advancing local economic development.
