Accra, March 3, GNA – Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa has held strategic discussions with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) as part of efforts to deepen tourism cooperation and expand Ghana’s presence in Africa’s business events market.
Mr. Benjamin Quashie, Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, engaged Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, Deputy Chief Executive of the GTA, following his participation in Meetings Africa 2026, the continent’s premier business events trade show.
Following Ghana’s successful participation in the event, with the backing of the GTA and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Aggrey, who led the delegation, paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria.
Mr Aggrey said the visit aligns with the GTA’s strategy to leverage the visa waiver agreement between the two countries to drive tourism growth, cultural exchange, and international collaboration.
He noted that strengthening institutional cooperation between Ghana and South Africa remains critical to enhancing tourism development, improving Ghana’s competitiveness, and promoting cultural diplomacy.
Key areas discussed included benchmarking best practices in tourism development, enhancing collaboration within the MICE and leisure tourism sectors, promoting cultural exchanges, creative arts partnerships and heritage tourism initiatives, and facilitating reciprocal participation in major tourism events.
“This visit reflects the GTA’s unwavering commitment to diplomatic collaboration as a strategic pillar for tourism growth,” Mr. Aggrey said. “Through purposeful partnerships, benchmarking, and cultural exchange, Ghana continues to position itself as Africa’s most attractive cultural and heritage destination.”
Mr. Aggrey also commended High Commissioner Quashie for what he described as exceptional diplomatic leadership that has strengthened Ghana’s bilateral relations, expanded trade and tourism dialogue, and elevated Ghana’s visibility within Southern Africa’s diplomatic and business circles.
High Commissioner Mr Quashie who is also accredited to Lesotho, Eswatini, Seychelles, Mauritius and Mozambique pledged his full support for advancing Ghana’s tourism objectives.
He assured that the High Commission would facilitate partnerships that promote tourist arrivals, investment, and deeper cultural linkages.
