Accra, March 9, GNA – Four Ghanaian soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon have been injured following a missile attack on the headquarters of the Ghanaian Battalion in southern Lebanon.

Three of the soldiers sustained minor injuries while one was critically wounded.

A statement issued by the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in Accra and signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director of Public Relations, confirmed the incident.

It said the critically injured soldier had successfully undergone surgery and was responding to treatment, adding that all the injured personnel were currently in stable condition.

The statement indicated that the incident also resulted in the destruction of accommodation facilities for 14 officers whose quarters were completely burnt down during the attack.

It said the affected officers had since been re-kitted, re-accommodated, and provided the necessary support.

Despite the incident, the statement noted that the Battalion remained in high spirits and morale among the troops continued to be high.
