Yawsae (Bono), March 16, GNA – The Eli’s Wells, a United States-based international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), in partnership with the WENSAH Foundation, a local NGO has commissioned a mechanised borehole for the Yawsae farming community in the Sunyani Municipality.
The facility, funded by VICKI and Larry Jones, a donor organisation, was to provide access to clean water and improve the health status of the rural dwellers.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) learnt that the community, which had about 1,400 residents largely depended on and shared the nearby stream with stary animals like cattle, pigs and dogs.
At a ceremony at Yawsae in the Bono Region, Mr Isaac Osei Amponsah, the Chief Executive Officer for WENSAH Foundation, said the facility sought to tackle the acute water crisis in the area, and urged the people to maintain it.
Nana Sadique Abubarkari, the Baasari Chief of Yawsae, thanked the NGOs area thanked the NGOs for the assistance and appealed for additional support to repair only non-functional borehole in the area.
Earlier, the Eli’s Well commissioned a similar mechanised borehole for the chiefs and people of Baakoniaba in the Municipality.
The construction of that facility was funded by the Jarred and Elizabeth Stein, another international NGO.
Mr Richard Lyall, the Project Manager, Eli’s Well said the NGO remained dedicated to provide clean water, saying that it had so far constructed 19 water facilities in the Municipality.
Mr Jarred Stein, the President of the Eli’s Well, noted that accessing clean water remained essential to improve quality healthcare, saving lives, promoting quality education and building the local economy.
Mr Douglas Alley, the Vice-President of the Eli’s Well, also reiterated the commitment of the organisation towards helping Ghanaians in remote communities with clean and safe drinking water,” and urged beneficiary communities to take proper care of the facilities.
