Keta (VR), March 5, GNA – Dzelukope Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) school, in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has won the National Commission for Civic Education’s (NCCE), organised quiz competition in the Afugo zone.
The Seva A.M.E. Zion school also emerged as winners of the Wego Zones,
The Fugo Zone finale, held in Keta, saw Dzelukope EP School retaining the trophy with a score of 63 points, to beat Bishop Herman Basic two, who managed to gather 32 points.
Madam Elinam Lina Bensah, the NCCE Director at Keta, told the Ghana New Agency after the competition, that the event was initially supposed to feature three schools, such as Dzelukope EP School, Bishop Herman Basic 2, and Keta AME Zion.
However, Keta A.M.E. Zion was unable to turn up for the event, leaving contest between the remaining two schools,” she said.
Madam Bensah praised the participants and their teachers for their help in organising a smooth and successful exercise and commended them for their commitment to civic education.
She explained that in the Wego Zone finale, which took place earlier, Seva A.M.E Zion school emerged winners with 62 points, followed closely by Abor EP School with 52 points.
“The competition was made possible through the generous support of Mr Wisdom Seade, the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Assembly, and other sponsors, including Sitsofe Credit Union, Honesty Store, and Mawulikplim, among others.”
Madam Bensah said that the recently ended event was the second edition of the quiz competition for the Fugo Zone and the first edition for the Wego Zone, which marked a significant milestone in promoting civic education in the Keta Municipality.
She said that the NCCE’s efforts at promoting civic education and awareness among the youth, were to be commended and the competition was an important testament to its commitment to the cause.
She said the winners of the competition were awarded trophies and certificates, with Dzelukope EP School and Seva A.M.E Zion school taking home the top prizes.
Some headteachers and students expressed satisfaction with the competition, saying it would fully equip students to know more about their citizenship education and duties for the progress and development of the nation.
They expected the Keta Municipal NCCE to sustain the organisation of such events to promote civic education and create awareness among the youth in the municipality.
