Amansie West district assembly fails to elect Presiding Member for second time

By Samuel Ofori Boateng, GNA

Manso-Nkwanta (Ash), March 11, GNA – The Amansie West District Assembly has for the second consecutive time, failed to elect a presiding member, leaving the assembly in a deadlock, raising concerns about the continuity of its operations.

In the first round of voting, Monica Osei Kyei, secured 23 votes, while Kusi Dickson obtained 13 votes, with one ballot rejected.

However, neither candidate achieved the required two-thirds majority, necessitating a second round of voting.

In the subsequent round, both candidates received an equal number of 18 votes each out of the 36 total votes cast, resulting in yet another stalemate.

Mr Stephen Bertino, representing the Electoral Commission (EC), announced that the election had been rescheduled and would be reconvened within ten days to break the deadlock.

Mr Prince Manu Morris, the District Chief Executive (DCE) in a media interview, expressed disappointment over the assembly’s inability to elect a presiding member.

He warned that, the delay could affect the district’s developmental agenda and appealed to assembly members to set aside their political differences in favor of the community’s progress.

Several assembly members have voiced out their concern over the recurring impasse but remained optimistic that, the upcoming vote would produce a decisive outcome and ensure effective leadership for the assembly.
