Hlefi (V/R), March 7, GNA-Mr Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament of Ketu North Constituency, has praised Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah for championing education through the Ho West Basic School Annual Quiz Competition.
Mr Agbana made the remarks when he addressed participants and stakeholders at the final stage of the Ho West Basic School Annual Quiz Competition (BaSAQ-C), held at Hlefi in the Ho West District.
The lawmaker, who was the guest speaker at the event, commended Mr Bedzrah for initiating and sustaining the competition for over a decade, to motivate basic school pupils to excel academically.
“God has really blessed the people of Ho West with a distinguished Member of Parliament. Many constituencies across the country wish they had a leader like him,” Mr Agbana stated.
He explained that despite a busy parliamentary schedule, he honoured the invitation because of the mentorship and support he had received from Mr Bedzrah since his days as a student leader at the University of Ghana.
Mr Agbana noted that the Ho West initiative had inspired him to introduce a similar competition in his constituency to promote academic excellence among basic school pupils.
“I have come here to study how this programme is organised, and I want to assure you that next year Ketu North will host its maiden basic schools quiz competition,” he said.
He encouraged the contestants to take the competition seriously, stressing that such academic contests help build confidence, courage, and leadership qualities among young learners.

Mr Agbana also urged teachers to continue investing their time and efforts in mentoring students, noting that the impact of their dedication might only become evident in the future when the learners excel in their careers.
He further appealed to parents, communities and corporate institutions, including the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, to support the programme, describing education as the most reliable path to development for the Volta Region.
