Ada youth group demands protection for Ghanaian investors

Sege, March 17, GNA — The Ada Youth Forum for Development has called on the government to protect Ghanaian investors and ensure fairness in the treatment of local entrepreneurs, citing recent developments involving businessman Mr Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan.

At a press conference held at the McDan Sports Complex in Sege, the group expressed concern about what it described as increasing pressure on businesses associated with the McDan Group of Companies.

The press conference was organised under the theme “Hands Off Ghanaian Investors – The Case of McDan”.

Mr Ernest Dugbanor Kugblenu, Public Relations Officer of the forum, who read the statement on behalf of the group, said the continuous challenges faced by businesses linked to the McDan Group raised concerns about the protection of local investors in Ghana.

Mr Kugblenu said Ghanaian entrepreneurs who invest in key sectors of the economy and create employment opportunities should be protected to encourage investment and economic growth.

According to him, the McDan Group of Companies has over the years contributed significantly to job creation and economic development in Ghana.

He cited the alleged invasion of the Electrochem Ghana Limited salt mining site at the Ada Songor Lagoon on January 9, 2025, during which machinery and materials were reportedly destroyed.

He said the group was worried that the incident had not yet resulted in arrests or clear accountability.

The forum also raised concerns about the demolition of warehouses belonging to the McDan Group near the Kotoka International Airport as well as reported pressure on the operations of McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal.

Mr Kugblenu said if licences and agreements were granted under the laws of Ghana, such agreements should be respected regardless of changes in political administration.

“Today it is McDan. Tomorrow it could be any Ghanaian entrepreneur,” he said, warning that actions perceived to undermine local investors could discourage both local and foreign investment in the country.

The group also noted that the Ada Songor Lagoon project was significant to the economic future of the Ada area because of its potential to create employment and stimulate local development.

The forum therefore called on the government to take steps to ensure the protection of businesses belonging to the McDan Group and other Ghanaian investors.

Among its demands, the group urged the president to direct the Ghana Airports Company Limited to reopen Terminal One to enable McDan Aviation to resume its Fixed Base Operator (FBO) operations.

The forum also called for compensation for damages allegedly caused to the businessman’s properties and appealed for protection of Ghanaian investors from what it described as intimidation.
