Teachers honour Tema Metro Education Director

Tema, Feb. 12, GNA – Teachers in the Tema Metropolis have honoured Mrs Bernice Ofori, the Tema Metro Director of Education, with a citation in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the growth and quality of education in the area.

The citation, presented by the teachers, acknowledged her exemplary leadership, commitment to teacher development, and sustained efforts in promoting academic excellence, cultural education, and innovation in schools.

This was done during the Best Teacher Awards ceremony for the metro, where teachers noted that, over the years, there has been significant improvement in the education sector at the national, regional, and district levels.

The teachers said it reflected the collective achievements of the Metro and told the story of an education service shaped by committed teachers, visionary leadership, and determined learners whose success continues to speak to the quality of education delivered in Tema Metro.

Meanwhile, the Tema Metropolitan Education Directorate has acknowledged teachers from the area for performing creditably on the national and regional levels.

Among them was Madam Faustina Asaabo of Manhean Community School, who won the Most Outstanding Teacher in Differentiated Learning award for her inclusive and learner-centred teaching practices during the Ghana Teacher Prize awards in 2024.

Others were Madam Georgina Bissiwu of Manhean Anglican Junior High School, who was honoured among the top 15 Outstanding Teachers nationwide, and Mr Michael Mensah Annang of Manhean Methodist Basic School, who was adjudged the Most Outstanding Teacher in Leadership and Administration at the National Ghana Teacher Prize Awards in 2025.

Mrs Sabina Ferguson Haizel of Archbishop Andoh Roman Catholic Basic School placed first runner-up in the Most Outstanding Teacher category in 2025, while Mrs Priscilla Abiba Painstil of Community Eight Number Four Junior High School was honoured as the Most Outstanding Public Female Educator of the Year 2025 by the Business Executive Group, an internationally recognised award organisation.

Furthermore, in the same year, Twedaase Primary School emerged as the overall winner of the Dext Technology Limited and IVL Foundation Science Exhibition, Manhean SDA Basic School was adjudged the Regional Best Junior High School in Practical Agriculture, while St Peter Roman Catholic Basic School distinguished itself at the National Junior High School Science and Mathematics Quiz, reaching the semi-final stage.

Tema Metro also produced Bright Senam Atakpa, who was honoured as Best Emerging Scientist during the competition.

Archbishop Andoh Roman Catholic Basic School also recorded multiple national-level successes, including winning the GSTEP Challenge Excellence in Business Planning Award and reaching the semi-final stage of the National Junior High School Science and Mathematics Quiz.

The Metro also emerged overall best at the 2024 Zonal Level Basic Schools Festival of Arts and Culture, winning eight out of twelve disciplines, as well as dominating both the Zonal and Greater Accra Regional Kindergarten Festivals of Arts and Culture.

The Tema Metro further distinguished itself at the Greater Accra Regional Onga Cook Art Competition, represented by Chemu Senior High School and in choral music, as well as placing first at the Regional Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols held in Ashaiman.

In addition, in 2025, the Music and Culture Coordinator of the Tema Metro led a choral performance at the 68th Independence Day Celebration at the Jubilee House, projecting Tema Metro’s excellence onto the national stage.
