Takoradi, Feb 27, GNA –Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Member of Parliament for Takoradi, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to address pressing economic issues in his State of the Nation Address to Parliament.
The MP wants the President to focus on the cocoa sector, Goldboard and the high cost of living.
Mr Okyere Darko‑Mensah, also former Western Regional Minister, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi, urged the government to pay cocoa farmers the previous producer price.
He stressed that the government must pay cocoa farmers their previous producer price to improve upon their living conditions, noting that many farmers were currently worse off.
He warned that the ongoing dispute between cocoa farmers and the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) did not augur well for a smooth economic take‑off.
The MP also called on the President to press the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) to account for losses incurred by the nation.
Mr Darko‑Mensah stressed the need for a drastic reduction in electricity and water tariffs to cushion ordinary Ghanaians.
