Hohoe (V/R), Feb 2, GNA – Etornam Vumadzi, a driver and Emmanuel Komlagah, were arrested on Friday, January 30, by the Volta North Regional Police Command, while transporting suspected narcotic substances from Gbi Godenu towards Togo.

Inspector Felix Kwao, the Volta North Regional Public Relations Officer in a release copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation.

He said the intelligence indicated that a Toyota minibus with registration number GT-6592-19 was heading towards Togo with a consignment suspected to be narcotic drugs.

Inspector Kwao said a search conducted on the vehicle led to the retrieval of 18 sacks, each containing 36 yellow oval parcels, with a total of 648 parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs.

He said preliminary investigations further established that a third party, identified only as Joseph, spoke to the police team on phone and attempted to offer an amount of GH¢150,000 as a bribe while the suspects also tried to pay GH¢32,000 upfront.

Inspector Kwao said all offers were rejected by the police officers adding that the suspects were currently in police custody assisting investigations and would be put before court to face the full rigours of the law.
