Adaklu Anfoe (V/R), Feb. 8, GNA – Mr Jerry Yao Ameko, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adaklu, has reminded residents that participation in the National Sanitation Day exercise is compulsory and not optional.
He said the Assembly, in collaboration with the District Environmental Health Office, would prosecute individuals who refused to take part in the exercise when reported. Mr Ameko gave the warning while addressing chiefs and residents of Adaklu Anfoe during a massive clean-up exercise to mark National Sanitation Day.
The National Sanitation Day, instituted by President John Dramani Mahama, is observed on the first Saturday of every month.
Mr Ameko said the Assembly was determined to make the Adaklu District the cleanest in the Volta Region, stressing the need for the support of religious and traditional authorities, non-governmental organisations and youth groups to achieve the goal.
The DCE, who is also the Dean of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Volta Region, appealed to Assembly Members to give maximum support to the exercise in their respective electoral areas.
He disclosed that the Assembly would soon introduce an annual award scheme to recognise and reward the cleanest communities in the district.
Mr Ameko later visited communities including Adaklu Ahunda, Adaklu Waya, Adaklu Kpodzi, Adaklu Abuadi and Adaklu Helekpe, where he commended residents for their patriotism.
He urged community leaders not to shield individuals who failed to participate in the exercise but to report them to the Assembly to serve as a deterrent to others.
