Over 3000 slabs of narcotics intercepted at Sege Akpla Manya by Tema Police

Tema, Feb. 18, GNA – The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects and intercepted a truckload with 3009 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotics.  

This was disclosed in the statement issued by the command and signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs. 

It noted that on February 15, 2026, at about 00:10 hours, an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit led to the interception of a Sinotruck Tipper Truck, with registration number GN 993-14, at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region. 

“The vehicle was loaded with fertiliser sacks, containing a total of 3009 slabs of plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs (cannabis).” 

It added that upon sighting the Police, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled, while the truck and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Headquarters for further investigations, and efforts were ongoing to arrest the driver and verify the ownership of the vehicle. 

The Command stated that in a related development, on February 16, 2026, at about 19:10 hours, two suspects, Victor Asigbey, 40 years old, and Peter Asigbey, 35 years old, were arrested for attempting to bribe Police officers at the Regional CID Office in Tema with a cash sum of GH₵ 150,000.00 in an attempt to unlawfully influence officers to release the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substances. 

It noted that the money has been retrieved and retained as an exhibit, while the two suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations, adding that they would be arraigned before the court on February 18, 2026. 

The Command assured the public of its unwavering commitment to combating narcotic-related offences and maintaining the highest standards of integrity in the discharge of its duties.
