Moroccan Government Launches Support Programme for Flood‑Affected Communities

Rabat, Feb. 15, MAP / GNA – The Government of Morocco has initiated a comprehensive programme to help populations affected by recent flooding in the northern and western regions of the country, in line with High Royal Instructions issued following exceptional rainfall recorded over the past two months.

A statement issued by the Office of the Head of Government on Friday said the programme was developed after an on‑the‑ground assessment of damage and the immediate needs of communities impacted by the floods.

According to the statement, all relevant governmental departments have been mobilised to ensure effective and timely implementation of the measures.

Under the relief package, families directly affected by the floods will receive financial support of up to MAD 6,000, while an additional MAD 15,000 will be provided for the rehabilitation of damaged homes and small businesses.

Support of MAD 140,000 will also be made available for the reconstruction of homes that collapsed as a result of the severe weather.

Distribution of the emergency financial aid is scheduled to begin next week. The statement said heads of affected households are required to send a text message to shortcode 1212, indicating their electronic national identity card (CNIE) number and date of birth, to enable verification and processing of applications.

For rehabilitation and reconstruction assistance, specialised committees will conduct detailed surveys in areas officially designated as disaster zones.

Individuals may also submit their requests directly to these committees for examination under existing regulatory procedures, ensuring what the statement described as a transparent and equitable process.

In the agricultural sector, the Government will support farmers through a spring cropping programme tailored to affected regions.

The initiative includes assistance for the cultivation of oilseeds, cereals and fodder crops, along with subsidies for the purchase of seeds and fertilisers. Support to livestock farmers impacted by the floods will also continue.

The programme, the statement noted, aligns with the High Royal directives aimed at ensuring effective supervision of evacuation and displacement operations.

It emphasised proactive management of potential threat levels and the mobilisation of logistical resources to guarantee the safe movement of populations out of high‑risk zones and their return once conditions permit.
