Nkwanta (O/R), Feb. 16, GNA – Kyabobo National Park, in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in the Oti Region, has commemorated this year’s National Chocolate Day at Shiare, popularly known as the “Hanging Village”, with a range of activities celebrating Ghana’s rich cocoa heritage.

Shiare, a distinctive farming community perched on a mountain in the Nkwanta South Municipality, is renowned for its scenic landscape and unique tourism attractions, making it an ideal venue for the national celebration.

Mr Akwesi Frimpong, Acting Oti Regional Director of the GTA, said the choice of Shiare was deliberate and aimed at fostering peace in the area while stimulating tourism growth and community development.

He noted that the event not only promoted the consumption of locally produced chocolate and cocoa products but also highlighted the municipality’s tourism potential and encouraged greater visitor interest in the enclave.

Mr Frimpong called on residents to support peace-building initiatives to help attract tourists to the community.

Mr Alfred Kofi Bara, Manager of Kyabobo National Park, expressed optimism that the celebration would strengthen social cohesion, boost local businesses, and position the community and its surroundings as an emerging tourism destination in the region.

Mr Joshua Donkor, tour guide for the Hanging Village, speaking on behalf of the chiefs and elders, thanked the organisers for choosing the community for such a national event.

He outlined some challenges facing the area which, he said, required urgent attention, adding that Shiare could not be left out in efforts to develop tourism in the region.

He stressed that boosting local tourism would ultimately support the development of the municipality and the Oti region as a whole.
