Dambai (O/R), Feb 26, GNA – Residents of Krachi East in the Oti Region are eagerly awaiting the State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2026, scheduled for February 27, hoping for announcements that will improve healthcare delivery and address economic challenges.

Mr Safo Nketia, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has already shared plans for projects such as a modern fish market, military barracks and a 24-Hour market in Dambai.

Mr Richard Dunugbe, a resident of Dambai Peace City, expressed his desire for a befitting hospital, recalling a promise made by President John Dramani Mahama, then as presidential candidate during his 2024 campaign.

“Lack of a hospital in Dambai is a big blow to us,” Mr Dunugbe praised the progress of work on the River Oti bridge and called for a similar action on the hospital project.

Madam Mavis Afia Wukanyi, a trader and community member of Pai-Katanga, appreciated the government’s efforts to reduce prices of goods and services, citing lower prices of Frytol oil, rices and other essentials.

However, she highlighted the challenge of low liquidity in the market, stating “there’s no money in the system for customers to patronise these services.”

She urged the President to address the monetary issue.

Mr Adeti Joseph, a prominent figure at Dormabin highlighted abandoned projects in the area which include the Oti Regional Police Administration Block, Oti Regional House of Chiefs Department, the Oti Regional Coordinating Council Administration, the Dambai town roads and many more, praying the president will redirect contractors to complete them in this year.

Madam Cecilia Abena Awudi of Dambai Banka community appealed for further reductions in building materials prices, saying, “Although we have seen some reduction in cement, iron rods and steel, we still appeal for more reduction, Mr President.”

Mr Collins Denteh of the Tokuroano community also touched the impact of recent power outages on local business and daily life, stating, “Our power supply system is not helping at all, we would be happy if president will address these challenges in the SONA.

Some Okada riders within the municipality have also shed light on the reduction of fuel prices across the country after president Mahama resumed office in January 7,2025, describing it as an unprecedented move.

The riders who spoke to the GNA, appealed to the president to maintain the current prices as he presents SONA on February 27. “The reduction in fuel prices has brought relief to we Okada riders, we were struggling with high operational costs.
