Mumbai, Aug. 12 (dpa/GNA) – Authorities in the Indian city of Mumbai, say at least six people have been killed in a landslide.
Four other people were injured, a city official said on Wednesday. According to a statement, masses of earth and mud slid down a hillside and crashed into several buildings in the district of Ghatkopar.
There are fears that people may still be trapped beneath the mud and the remains of the buildings. Rescue workers were searching for anyone who might have been buried.
The authorities believe heavy rainfall may have triggered the landslide. The incident occurred during the night in a densely built-up area.
Mumbai, on India’s west coast, is the country’s financial capital. It is currently the monsoon season on the Indian subcontinent.
