Accra, Feb. 25, GNA — Professor Titus Beyuo, the Board Chairman of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, has disclosed that the government is introducing a National Integrated Bed Management and Referral Coordination System to tackle the persistent “no-bed syndrome” in hospitals.
He said, “The current Minister of Health had already set in motion, a team to solve this situation comprehensively. They are finalising a document… This will be backed by IT and will allow us in real time to determine the types of beds available in a particular hospital.” Professor Beyuo, also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Lambussie made the revelation in Parliament on Tuesday.
He explained that the system aimed to provide real-time information on available beds, enabling the National Ambulance Service to quickly identify facilities for patient admission.
“Mr. Speaker, this work has been ongoing. It is unfortunate that while it was in its final weeks, this incident happened,” he said.
The announcement follows the death of the late Charles Amissah, a 29-year-old engineer who died after allegedly being turned away by three hospitals due to lack of beds.
He died on Friday, February 6, 2026.
