Accra, Feb. 21, GNA â The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Ghana Office, in collaboration with the National Queen Mothers Ghana and its Volta and Oti regional chapters, has organised a workshop for Queen Mothers from the two regions in Ho.
The sixth annual workshop was on the theme: âCombating Disinformation and Misinformation: The Role of Queen Mothers in Ensuring Good Governance.â
Ms Anna Lena Sabroso-Wasserfall, Country Representative of KAS Ghana, said misinformation and disinformation created confusion about what was true and false, damaged reputations, influenced elections and fuelled ethnic and political tensions.
She said false information spread quickly, especially on social media, affecting politics, families, schools and local peace.
âYou are trusted custodians of your communities. In times of confusion your voice can restore clarity. We want to strengthen your confidence and provide practical tools to address mis- and disinformation,â she said.
Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, Paramount Chief of Anfoega Traditional Area and President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, commended KAS Ghana for the initiative and urged Queen Mothers to seek representation at all levels of the traditional sector.
âAs leaders, we come across all manner of misinformation and the most dangerous part is the disinformation, which is deliberate. We need to find solutions to manage such situations,â he said.
He said Queen Mothers played critical roles at traditional and national levels and called for greater recognition of their contribution.
Mamaga Adzesu II, Paramount Queen Mother of the Sokpoe Traditional Area in the South Tongu District, said the training would enable participants to educate their communities on misinformation and disinformation.
âWe have been taken through training sessions that we can take to our homes and communities to impact our people. We are grateful to KAS for organising this programme,â she said.
