Accra, Feb. 25, GNA – The Janok Foundation, a non-governmental organisation has extended its front of pack warning label reading education campaign to the transport union leaders in the Ablekuma Central District in the Greater Accra Region.
Madam Jane Amerley Oku, the Chief Executive of the Foundation took the transport operators through the benefits of reading the front of pack warning labels.
She asked them to pay serious attention to reading the labels to make informed choices of foods to avoid food poisoning by quickly identify the expiry date of the products.
She said the labels also helped consumers identify products high in sugar, sodium, and fats to safeguard their health.
Madam Oku said high consumption of sugar, sodium, and fats led to health issues such as obesity, cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke), type ‘2’ diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), and chronic diseases.
She urged the participants to carry the lessons learnt to their colleagues and family members to help prevent the consumption of foods and beverages which are harmful to their health.
