Kumasi, (Ashanti), Feb. 21, GNA – Dr Freda Prempeh, a former Member of Parliament (MP) and former Minister of State has presented building materials to support the on-going construction of a standard infirmary project at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Technology (KNUST) Senior High School (SHS).
As an alumnus, Dr Prempeh told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a presentation ceremony in Kumasi that the materials comprising 500 cement blocks, 100 bags of cement and 12-wheel trip of sand were her widow’s mite to support the project execution.
The KNUST Senior High School Old Students Association (TECHSOSA) is putting up the infirmary project to enhance quality healthcare delivery among the students.
As the school marks its 65th anniversary celebration in July, this year, the TECHSOSA has intensified fundraising, urging the alumni contributions both in cash in kind to facilitate the completion and commission of the project.
Dr Prempeh, a 1983 alumnus, said giving back to the school and advancing its infrastructure development remained the surest appreciation the alumni could bequeath to the KNUST SHS.
She urged other old students to do the same in helping the school to tackle emerging development challenges and thereby create a more conducive environment for academic progress.
“On Sunday February 16, 2026, the headmaster had a meeting with all year group leaders at which he expressed the wish of the school to commission this infirmary to mark the 65th anniversary in July this year”, she explained.
Dr Prempeh said: “As a 1983 ‘Badwemma’, I must respond quickly and make this donation to make this dream come true”.
She said Dr Owusu Ansah of the Aniniwah Hospital, a 1983 alumnus, also donated GHC2,000 as his personal support to the project.
Present at the ceremony were Mr Francis Boakye (1983) and Mrs Regina Quainoo (1983), and Lady Veronica Tandoh, the 65th Anniversary Planning Committee Chairperson, as well as the members of the planning committee.
