Cape Coast, Feb. 4, GNA – Management of Cape Coast-based Coastal Television paid a courtesy call on Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II to thank him for the station’s recognition as “Media House of the Year” at the 6th Osabarimba Royal Awards.
The awards, held on January 24, recognised the station’s impactful contributions to Cape Coast’s media landscape and community development.
The Osabarimba Royal Awards celebrate excellence, leadership and community impact in Oguaa, honouring individuals and institutions driving socio-economic and cultural development. Instituted by Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II in partnership with Ridge Royal Hotel, the annual awards began in 2021.
Hosted by the Oguaa Emintsimadze Palace and Ridge Royal Hotel, the awards scheme has evolved to recognise excellence across diverse sectors, including media, with strong community support.
Coastal Television is a subsidiary of the Centre for Intercultural Learning and Talent Development (CILTAD), a Ghanaian non-profit organisation based in Cape Coast. Founded in 1995, CILTAD is registered under the Companies Code of 1963 (Act 179) and accredited by the Department of Social Welfare.
In 2007, CILTAD obtained a licence from the National Communications Authority to establish Coastal Television, Ghana’s first community television station.
CILTAD/Coastal TV specialises in communication-for-development initiatives at community, district, regional, national and international levels, utilising television, drama, music and cultural expressions to drive social change, particularly in underserved communities.
Its core strengths include film and documentary production, drama and scriptwriting, behaviour change communication (BCC) materials, public education, advocacy, community mobilisation, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building and project management.

The organisation has partnered with institutions including UNICEF, GIZ, DANIDA, the British Council, STAR-Ghana, Goethe-Institut, Hans Seidel Foundation, the Ghana Revenue Authority, and various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
Leading the delegation, Mrs Gifty Adwoa Nyomi, Chief Executive Officer of the station, expressed profound gratitude to the Oguaa Traditional Council for the honour, describing it as a strong motivation to enhance programming quality, deepen community engagement and deliver impactful content.
She paid tribute to her late husband, Mr Selete Nyomi, founder of the station, as well as staff and management, for their unwavering support.
From its fully equipped three-storey facility in Cape Coast, supported by modern production and mobile outreach equipment, she said CILTAD/Coastal TV continued to lead as a trusted force in creative media for education, empowerment and social transformation.
She noted that the station’s serial dramas, documentaries, roadshows, studio discussions and community campaigns had contributed to positive behavioural change in health, sanitation, environmental conservation, governance, gender equality and civic engagement.
Mrs Nyomi reaffirmed the station’s commitment to promoting sanitation initiatives and cleaner environments through advocacy, awareness campaigns and partnerships.
She emphasised that delivering localised content, promoting cultural exchange and serving the unique needs of the Central Region remained core to the station’s mandate as the only television station rooted in Cape Coast.
Coastal TV is accessible nationwide via free-to-air broadcast and online streaming platforms, offering programmes including local news, cultural discussions, sports coverage and community-focused content that highlights Oguaa’s cultural heritage, particularly sanitation.
Responding, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II thanked the management of Coastal TV for the courtesy call, describing it as a gesture that strengthened mutual respect and unity in Cape Coast.
“As you continue to illuminate the airwaves,” he advised, “champion the timeless ideals of Cape Coast—our rich cultural heritage, commitment to education, peaceful coexistence and preservation of our historical legacy.”
“By weaving these values into your programming,” he said, “you will inspire the youth, foster community pride and ensure the Oguaa spirit resonates far beyond our shores.”
“Together, let us build a brighter future,” the Omanhen added.
