Goaso, (Ahafo), Feb. 24, GNA – The Ahafo Regional Police Command has arrested three young men for alleged possession of firearms without lawful authority.
According to a statement issued and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCoP) James Annor, the Ahafo Regional Police Commander, suspects Johnson Mawutor, 26, Kelvin Ofori 22, and Mawuli Dogba were preparing to commit robbery when they were arrested.
A copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani said the suspects were arrested by the Ahafo Regional Taskforce patrol teams while on duty along the Ayomso-Goaso road on Monday February 22, 2026 around 2330hours.
It said suspects Mawutor and Ofori were spotted on an unregistered motorbike, saying upon seeing the police they switched off the headlights and attempted to escape, but the patrol team pursued and arrested them.
The statement indicated that a search on them revealed one AK47 assault rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag they were carrying.
A further search in the residence at Abrodanho, a suburb of Goaso led to the discovery of some weapons from the room of suspect Mawutor, it stated.
The statement said the police had since retrieved one Baretta Bruni pistol, one Nm157-1941 pistol, 30 rounds of 19mm ammunition, 50 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, four Motorola handsets, one machete, one Contiso F35 drone and one Bionette knife.
It explained that preliminary investigations revealed that suspects Mawutor and Dogba and one other suspect Mohammed Adinan Ussif, now at large got the weapons at Techiman in the Bono East Region.
The statement explained that investigations were on-going to arrest suspect Ussif and any other persons involved and assured the police dedication to provide a peaceful and safe environment for all, urging the public to continue to share information with the police.
