Western Region is doing well-Mintaba

Takoradi, Jan. 08, GNA-Mr. Charles Mintaba, a Social Political Commentator in the Western Region, views the Region as doing “well”. 

He lauded the President for choosing Mr. Joseph Nelson, as the Regional Minister, who he said, “knows the Region very well”, as well as strategic appointment of District Chief Executives, to spearhead local economic development.  

Mr. Mintaba,  told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the President himself, visiting the region three times in his first year, attest to the President’s attachment to the region to do well. 

He noted how the no fees stress system for first year students among other interventions had been key in also reducing financial burden on parents. 

Infrastructure development of the Senior High schools: Takoradi Technical Institute, and Daboase are wonderful interventions. 

He added: “The District Assembly Common Fund is now doing targeted interventions,” the Social Political Commentator added. 

In agriculture, he mentioned cocoa and coconut sector projects which have given opportunities for both the young and old to engage in productive venture that alleviate poverty. 

He was grateful for the Mahama Care Obatanpa Project which he said continued to make critical medical needs accessible to the underprivileged.  

He prayed for intensive care units for key hospitals and specialists rather than referrals which continued to soar mortality rates.  

Mr  Mintaba mentioned a propose new year school to be spearheaded by the Takoradi Technical University to gather fine brains to shape the development of the region. 

He called on all stakeholders to help win the issue of illegal mining and its adverse effects on lives and the environment. 

Mr Mintaba called for chancellors to be appointed some key universities in the region to propel their development.  

He was impressed that unwarranted taxes had been removed and rather called for the reintroduction toll systems which was a source for livelihoods for some Ghanaians who traded along the booth. 

He said: “If we are in school, I will say, it is 95 percent for Mahama’s first year.”
