Berlin, Jan 15, (dpa/GNA) – Two store employees have been injured in a knife attack at a shopping centre in the southern German city of Ulm, with one of them fighting for his life, according to police.
The 25-year-old man is in intensive care and in a critical condition, police and prosecutors said on Wednesday. A 22-year-old employee of the electronics store was also slightly injured.
The alleged perpetrator was arrested while fleeing, according to a police spokesman. Emergency services were able to stop the 29-year-old man after he left the electronics store.
Police officers fired several shots at him because he also threatened officers with the knife and refused to drop the weapon, investigators said. The man, who is originally from Eritrea, was seriously injured in the incident. He is also in intensive care.
A possible motive for the attack has yet to be established. The man has been convicted of violent crimes in the past, and had served a prison sentence until December, investigators said.
According to officers, there was no winder danger to the public.
