Los Angeles, California, Jan 30, (dpa/GNA) – Canadian actress Catherine O’Hara, who played the screen mother of young Kevin in the hit comedy “Home Alone,” has died, her management told dpa on Friday.
O’Hara died on Friday after a “short illness” at her home in Los Angeles, her management said. She was 71.
The Canadian appeared in many comedies, including as Delia Deetz in “Beetlejuice” (1988) and in the sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” (2024).
In the Hollywood hit “Home Alone,” which made Macaulay Culkin a child star, she portrayed the mother of the young title character, who was accidentally left at home by his parents during a Christmas trip.
Together with fellow Canadian actor Eugene Levy, O’Hara shone in the sitcom “Schitt’s Creek” as a couple who, after financial ruin, move with their family from a mansion to a motel in the backwater town of Schitt’s Creek. Her role as Levy’s wife in the award-winning series earned her an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
Most recently, alongside comedy star Seth Rogen, O’Hara appeared in the comedy series “The Studio.”
