Siegen, Germany, Jan 7, (dpa/GNA) – A 49-year-old woman is due to go on trial in the western German city of Siegen on Wednesday, on charges of concealing, abusing and causing injury to her daughter over a period of seven years.
The girl’s grandparents, aged 83 and 80, are accused of being accessories to the crimes.
The girl was freed from their home in Attendorn in the Sauerland region in September 2022. She was 8 at the time.
According to prosecutors, the girl had been held captive in the family home since 2015, suffering considerable psychological harm as a result.
Police and welfare officials freed her acting on a number of tip-offs, taking her to a foster family.
The motives for the actions by the mother and grandparents remain unclear.
