Accra, Jan. 15, GNA – Senegal booked their place in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a goal from Sadio Mané secured a 1-0 victory over Egypt in a tense semi-final encounter in Tangier.
The Al-Nassr forward struck in the 77th minute, firing home a superb effort outside the penalty box to break the deadlock in a match that had offered few clear-cut chances.
Both sides approached the contest cautiously, with Egypt sitting deep and Senegal struggling to find space in the opening exchanges.
The first half ended goalless, with neither goalkeeper seriously tested as midfield battles dominated proceedings.
Senegal increased the tempo after the break, pressing higher and committing more players forward, but Egypt’s defence remained disciplined for much of the second half.
The breakthrough finally came when Mané bounced on a deflected loose ball outside the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot that beat Egyptian goalkeeper El Shenawy.
The stadium which was mostly dominated by Senegalese fans erupted into massive celebration.
Egypt pushed forward in the closing stages in search of an equaliser, but Senegal held firm to see out the victory.
The win sends Senegal into Sunday’s final, where they would face either Nigeria or Morocco, who meet in the other semi-final encounter.
