Moscow, Jan 21, (dpa/GNA) – A Moscow court sentenced four men to lengthy prison terms on Wednesday, following the deadly bomb attack on Russian General Igor Kirillov.
The main defendant was sentenced to life imprisonment, Russian media reported.
He must serve the first 10 years of his sentence in prison and the rest in a penal colony with harsh conditions.
The court sentenced three accomplices to prison terms of between 18 and 25 years. They are accused of participating in the attack.
Kirillov was killed by an explosive device in front of his home in the Russian capital in December 2024. His aide was also killed in the attack.
Kirillov was head of Russia’s NBC defence forces and responsible for protection against nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. He was an important propagandist for Russia’s war on Ukraine, launched with a full-scale invasion in 2022.
The Ukrainian secret service claimed responsibility for the assassination. High-ranking officers in Moscow and propagandists have repeatedly been the targets of attacks since the beginning of the Kremlin’s invasion of its neighbour.
