Kumasi Jan. 31, GNA – The NPP presidential primaries is underway smoothly in various polling centres in the 47 constituencies of the Ashanti region.
A total of 36,626 delegates are expected to cast their ballots in the 47 constituencies.
A visit of some of the centres by the Ghana News Agency indicated that, voting started at exactly 7 am, with agents of the contestants present, while security is also tight.
No controversy has been reported as at the time of filing this report.
A total of 874 accredited delegates are expected to cast their ballot at the Juaso Senior High School park in the Asante Akim South constituency.
They include polling station executives, constituency executives, electoral area coordinators, and other recognised party officials.
The exercise, which forms part of the party’s nationwide internal electoral process, has attracted a heavy security presence to ensure calm, transparency, and strict adherence to electoral guidelines.
Police personnel have been strategically positioned at the centre and within the voting arena to prevent disturbances and maintain order.
Party officials at the venue expressed confidence in a smooth process, describing the vote as critical to uniting the party and redefining its leadership direction following its transition into opposition.
The results from Juaso are expected to contribute significantly to the overall outcome of the flagbearer contest, as the NPP intensifies preparations to reclaim power in the next general elections.
At the Asawase constituency, a total of 1,100 delegates are expected to cast their votes, at the Asokore-Mampong M/A polling centre.
There was a heavy Police presence at the centre.
At the old Tafo constituency, 762 delegates are expected to cast their votes.
Mr Ekow Vincent Assafuah, Member of Parliament of Old Tafo told the Ghana News Agency after casting his vote that, stressed the need for unity after the elections.
He said there was the need for every member of the party to commit him or herself to support any candidate who would emerge as winner from the elections.
A total of 1176 delegates are expected to vote in the Oforikrom constituency.
As at 1027 am, 305 delegates had cast their votes.
The Atwima Mponua constituency has 1,093 delegates, who are expected to cast their votes.
As at 9:30 am. 209 delegates had cast their votes.
