Kumasi, Jan. 20, GNA – Leslie Nkansah Osei-Bonsu, an Ashanti royal, has sworn the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, marking his official induction as the new Mamponghene.

The historic ceremony was held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the seat of the Asante Kingdom.

With the oath-taking, the 51-year-old royal formally assumed his position as the legitimate occupant of the Silver Stool of Asanteman, taking the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III.

He succeeds the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, who passed away in April 2025 after years of distinguished service to the Kingdom and the people of Asante-Mampong.

The colourful and culturally rich event attracted traditional rulers, opinion leaders, family members, and residents from across the Kingdom.

Dressed in elegant traditional regalia, attendees converged at Manhyia Palace to witness and celebrate the elevation of the new Asante-Mamponghene, underscoring the unity and enduring traditions of Asanteman.

Beyond his royal heritage, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III brings extensive professional experience to the stool.

He is a trained engineer, senior software architect, and geospatial strategist, reflecting a blend of tradition and modern expertise that is shaping contemporary traditional leadership.

He is also the brother of the current Asante-Mampong Queen Mother, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, further reinforcing his royal lineage.

During the ceremony, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III pledged unwavering loyalty to the Asantehene and vowed to uphold the responsibilities of Nwisiahene, Nifahene, and Chief Warrior of Asante-Mampong.

He promised to lead his people with courage, integrity, and discipline, and to defend the Kingdom whenever called upon.

Prior to administering the oath, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II paid glowing tribute to the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, commending his humility, selflessness, and dedicated service to Asanteman.

He urged the new occupant of the Silver Stool to emulate these virtues.

“You are my grandson, and so you are my own, and I rest my case. I know you were the confidant of Daasebre while he lived. I am aware,” Otumfuo said, offering reassurance and counsel as Daasebre Osei Bonsu III begins his reign.
