Wenchi (Bono), Jan. 31, GNA-Mr Kojo Frempong, a leading member of the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia team in the Wenchi constituency, a political stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has commended the delegates for endorsing the former vice president in the just ended presidential primary in the area.
In a media interview at Wenchi, shortly after the Electoral Commission (EC) announced the outcome of the constituency primary, Mr Frempong said âThe victory of Bawumia in 2026 is meaningless unless it is linked to the total victory of the NPP in the Election 2028,â he said.
He said Dr Bawumia winning the constituency primary was an indication that party delegates and supporters desired to regain political power in the Election 2028.
Mr Frempong, also the NPPâs Election 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency said he was highly optimistic that the former Vice President would be chosen as the partyâs Election 2028 flagbearer.
However, he asked the delegates and supporters of Alhaji Dr Bawumia in the constituency to be moderate in their jubilations, saying that âBawumiaâs victory here is a victory for the NPPâ.
Alhaji Dr Bawumia secured 491 votes of the 711 valid votes cast, with his keen contender, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong obtaining 145 votes.
Dr Bryan Acheampong also had 66 votes, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, eight votes and Dr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong one vote in the elections which ended peacefully and successfully at Wenchi.
