Ho, Jan 27, GNA – Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, has presented start-up tools and equipment to 42 beneficiaries under a skills training and apprenticeship support programme aimed at promoting self-reliance and youth employment in the Municipality.
The items included 24 sewing machines, 10 hair dryers and seven boxes of mobile phone repair kits for beneficiaries trained in dressmaking, hairdressing and mobile phone repairs.
Madam Gomashie, who also serves as Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, said the support was to empower the beneficiaries to establish their own businesses and become financially independent.
She said the beneficiaries were selected from more than 250 young people who had undergone training in various vocational and technical skills across the Municipality.
She explained that the beneficiaries were recommended by their master craft persons to sit for the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) examinations, which her office fully sponsored.
She said the presentation of certificates and tools was to ensure that the beneficiaries began work immediately after their training.
The MP reiterated her commitment to ensuring that no one in Ketu South was left behind in the pursuit of financial independence, adding that skills acquisition remained one of the most practical pathways to sustainable livelihoods in the current economic climate.
She urged both school leavers and tertiary graduates to learn a trade to improve their employability and supplement their income.
A beneficiary, Miss Jennifer Atsufui, expressed gratitude to the MP for supporting them throughout their training and providing the tools needed to start work.
She encouraged other young people in the Municipality to take advantage of opportunities being created to acquire employable skills.
The presentation ceremony, held at the Ketu South Municipal Assembly Hall, was marked by excitement and appreciation from the beneficiaries, who described the initiative as a source of renewed hope for a sustainable and productive future.
