Chiefs and people of Daffiama demand equitable distribution of infrastructure

Wa (UW/R), Jan. 27, GNA – Chiefs and residents of Daffiama in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) District have urged the government to ensure fair distribution of infrastructural projects to sustain peace and social cohesion.

They cautioned that concentrating key public infrastructure, such as administrative offices, in the district capital could marginalize other communities and undermine harmony.

Dr. Moses Dumayiri, Secretary of the Daffiama Men Association, Wa Branch, raised the concerns during a visit by Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing, to the Daffiama Traditional Area.

The appeal follows reports that the District Education Office, the Director’s bungalow, and associated facilities—initially earmarked for Daffiama—were being redirected to Issa, the district capital. Dr. Dumayiri said: “Moving these projects risks rekindling old tensions that we have worked hard to calm.” He urged the Regional Minister to maintain the original plan to ensure fairness and transparency.

Other demands included the establishment of a police station to tackle armed robbery, tarring of major roads such as Nadowli-Bussie, Daffiama-Fian, and Daffiama-Gbare, rehabilitation of dams for year-round farming, extension of electricity and water, and provision of groundnut oil extraction and shea butter processing equipment to support women’s economic activities.

In response, Mr Puozuing assured the chiefs and residents of the government’s commitment to equitable development across all communities. He pledged to liaise with authorities to establish a police post in Daffiama and support the gradual upgrading of the Daffiama Health Centre into a polyclinic.

The Regional Minister also visited the Kojokperi, Issa, and Bussie Traditional Areas, where leaders highlighted challenges such as poor road networks and limited educational facilities. The four paramountcies pledged continued support to ensure the successful implementation of development programmes.

Mr Sebastien Sandaari, MP for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, urged constituents to maintain peace and unity, warning against politicising development initiatives, which could undermine progress in the district.
