Ho, Jan. 11, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West Constituency, has called for justice for the resource guard with the Wildlife Division, shot in cold blood.

Raphael Ganyo was shot while lawfully performing his duties at the Kalakpa Resource Reserve at Abutia Kloe in the Volta Region in the early hours of Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

Mr Bedzrah in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) condemned heinous crime in the strongest possible terms describing it as a cowardly act.

He said the killing of a public officer, who was dedicated to protecting the nation’s natural heritage was not only an attack on an individual and his family but an attack on the state, the rule of law and the collective conscience of our nation.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the family of Mr Ganyo, his colleagues and the Abutia Traditional Area who have been plunged into mourning by this painful loss,” the MP said.

Mr Bedzrah said the death of Mr Ganyo has once again exposed the dangerous conditions under which resource guards operated and the urgent need for decisive state intervention.

He called on the Ghana Police Service, the Forestry Commission’s law enforcement units and all relevant national security agencies to do everything within their power to immediately apprehend the perpetrators of the crime.

Mr Bedzrah said those responsible must be brought to justice without delay to serve as a strong deterrent to others who sought to undermine state authority through violence and criminal exploitation of our resources.

He urged the Ministries of Lands and Natural Resources and Interior, and the Forestry Commission to urgently review and strengthen security arrangements at the Kalakpa Resource Reserve.

Mr Bedzrah said resource guards must be adequately protected, properly equipped, and supported to carry out their duties safely.

“No officer should be left exposed to danger while criminals operate with impunity. Mr Raphael Ganyo must not die in vain.

“His death must mark a turning point in the fight against illegal activities within the Kalakpa Resource Reserve and in the protection of officers who risk their lives in service to the nation”.

Mr Bedzrah said as the MP for Ho West, he would continue to engage the relevant authorities and advocate relentlessly to ensure justice was served and lasting security solutions were implemented.
