Government awards Agona Fawomanye/ Agona Asafo stretch on contract

Mankrong-Junction (C/R), Jan 08, GNA-The government has awarded the stretch of road from Agona Fawomanye to Agona Asafo through Kwesi Twi Krom to boost the transportation of goods and services to enhance economic activities in the area.  

Mr Samuel Oscar Mensah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Agona East who announced this at a maiden homecoming organised by the Chiefs and People of  Mankrong-Junction, said the contractor was on the site, preparing for the construction works. 

The DCE said the road from Mankrong-Junction to Agona Duakwa had also been awarded on contract with strong lobbying by Mrs Queenstar Maame Pokua Sawyer, Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona East. 

According to Mr Mensah, the MP had also lobbied for the construction of the Agona Swedru to Akim Akroso road under the  government’s ‘’Big Push’’ programme. 

He said the contract was initially awarded by the previous government, but the contractor left the site due to financial constraints. 

Mr Mensah said the MP had also pushed for the construction of the Agona Kwanyako/ Akotsi-Junction Road to facilitate the movement of goods and services to boost economic activities in the district. 

The DCE assured the chiefs and people of Mankrong-Juntion that plans had been completed by the MP for the construction of an ultra-modern   community centre. 

He said the Assembly had constructed a weighing centre at Agona Mensakrom Polyclinic and refurbished the Agona Duotu Community Clinic with new equipment to enhance health care delivery. 

On education, he said a new three classroom block at Agona Nintah and a six-classroom block at Agona Mensakrom, as well as many other projects were being constructed to enhance teaching and learning in the area. 

The DCE said the MP had also pushed for the construction of dormitories at Agona Namawora Senior High School, adding that, similar dormitories were going to be constructed at Kwanyako Senior High School to increase admission of students. 

He said the water crisis which hit Agona East and other districts due to galamsey had been resolved through the efforts of MP for Agona East with the help of the security agencies. 

Mr Mensah announced that a 24-Hour- Economy market had been earmarked to be constructed at Mankrong-Junction to boost economic activities in and around the area, adding that, the consultants had met the Assembly and other stakeholders for the project to take off as planned. 

Mr Abraham Kojo Nkum, Assemblyman for Mankrong-Junction said the maiden homecoming organised by the chiefs and people was to raise funds for the rehabilitation of the school park in the town. 

He urged citizens from Mankrong-Junction to visit home regularly to support developmental projects. 

He told them that the chiefs and people have envisaged many developmental projects to give Mankrong- Junction a facelift. 

Opinion leaders, stakeholders and the Assemblyman were also lobbing for the construction of an astro turf to help school children and the youth to unearth their talents.
