Government allocates GHS40m for Damanko community water system rehabilitation

Dambai (O/R), Jan. 28, GNA- Mr John Kwadwo Gyapong, the Oti Regional Minister, has announced the government’s allocation of GHS40 million for the rehabilitation of the Damanko community water system in Nkwanta North District.   

The affected communities are Damanko township, Papaye, Damanko Badule, Gyato Akura, Kabre Akura, Gyato-Kprakpra, Sibi Central, Sibi-Badule, Sibi Hill Top, Chorkorsi Akura, Kantinka Akura, Tindani Akura and Kpassa township.  

The project aims to provide reliable access to safe and clean drinking water for over 65,000 residents across thirteen communities.   

The rehabilitation project includes replacing damaged pumps, reconstructing intake, and treatment units, and upgrading leaking PVC pipes to durable HDPE pipes.   

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, the Minister said the initiative is part of the government’s water for all initiative, which seeks to ensure equitable access to clean water for all Ghanaians.   

According to the Minister, the rehabilitation of the Damanko community water system is expected to significantly improve health outcomes in the region.   

Speaking on the project, he emphasised that the rehabilitation would enable reducing the incidence of typhoid and other waterborne diseases in the area.
