Dambai (O/R), Jan. 16, GNA – Mr Peter Yaw Awuranyi, former District Chief Executive (DCE) of Krachi East has announced his candidacy for the Oti Regional Vice Chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The announcement comes ahead of the party’s regional elections, with the vice chairman position being a key role in the party’s hierarchy.
Mr Awuranyi, who served as DCE from 2013/2016, cited his experience and commitment to the party as reasons for seeking the top post.
His decision has sent shockwaves through the party’s regional hierarchy, with many considering him a strong contender.
A notable achievement during Mr Awuranyi’s tenure as DCE was convincing President John Dramani Mahama, then to absorb a GHS 1.6 million loan contracted by the District Assembly in 2008.
The loan taken from Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) was for a market project in Dambai but had become a financial burden due to accrued interest.
President Mahama described it as an albatross on the neck of the Assembly and agreed to absorb the outstanding amount, providing relief to the Assembly.
