Accra, Dec. 7, GNA – The quarter-final line-up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set, with the continent’s powerhouses advancing after a round of 16 filled with drama.
Morocco vs. Cameroon (Friday, 19:00GMT)
Morocco’s campaign continues in Rabat, buoyed by great home support, following a narrow 1-0 victory over Tanzania.
Real Madrid’s Brahim Díaz, who scored the winning goal against Tanzania, has been a star player in the tournament and has four goals thus far.
His influence remains crucial to Morocco’s quest for their second AFCON title but their next opponents, Cameroon, arrive on a high after defeating South Africa 2-1 in a tight match.
This match brings together two African heavyweights, in a highly anticipated quarter-final clash.
Senegal vs. Mali (Friday, 16:00 GMT)
Senegal, one of the tournament’s most consistent teams, were the first to reach the quarterfinals, defeating Sudan.
The Teranga Lions’ impressive group-stage performance has carried over into the knockout rounds, and they appear to be on track for another AFCON triumph.
But their opponents Mali would be buoyed by the win over Tunisia in the last 16.
Nigeria vs. Algeria (Saturday, 16:00 GMT)
Nigeria enters the quarterfinals after defeating Mozambique 4-0, one of the tournament’s most impressive performances.
Algeria advanced through a tense 1-0 extra-time triumph over DR Congo, thanks to a superb long-range strike by substitute Adil Boulbina.
Both Algeria and Nigeria have been among the highest goal scoring teams in the tournament and Saturday’s clash is destined to be an entertaining one.
Egypt vs Ivory Coast (Saturday, 19:00 GMT)
Seventime champions Egypt were pushed to the limit by Benin before securing a 3–1 win after extra time, with Mohamed Salah delivering the clinching goal at the very end of the match.
Defending champions Ivory Coast enter the quarter-finals in excellent form after a commanding 3–0 win over Burkina Faso, inspired by goals from Amad Diallo, Yan Diomandé, and Bamba Touré.
This matchup revisits one of AFCON’s most storied rivalries, with both sides unbeaten and carrying heavyweight expectations into Agadir.
