VRCC positioning House of Chiefs as rallying point for development – Gunu

Ho, Dec. 23, GNA-Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister has said the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) is positioning the Regional House of Chiefs (VRHCs) as a rallying point for the socio-economic development and authority of the region.

“The VRCC views the VRHC as a fulcrum around, which an accelerated development of the region must revolve,” he said urging the House to unite to champion the development progress of the Region.

Mr Gunu made these said this during the general meeting of the VRHCs in Ho, on Tuesday, disclosing that his administration had leapfrogged recognition of the House of Chiefs to integration and from coordination to collaboration to fast-track the development of the region.

This, he said encapsulated in the recent training for the House membership towards building the capacity for the task ahead and in line with President John Mahama’s vision of aligning the Ministry of Local Government with Chieftaincy towards leveraging good governance with local governance, integration, and development.

“To us, we see the Regional Houses of Chiefs as development agents, where everything must happen because membership touches the core and cord of the region and pray for unity.”

“We expect the House of Chiefs to lead as the represented the heartbeat of people and holds customs at bay for present and generations to come.”

Mr Gunu announced that the region was benefitting from over 200 Ghana Education Trust Fund (GEFUND) projects across the region towards increasing education infrastructure, many gains to accrue in the agricultural sector, the economic corridor, among others.

Togbe Tepre Hodo, President of the VRHC said the House had chalked some gains in the year and expect the ensuring year to bring even greater achievements.
He said the VRHC’s proposal to the Bank of Ghana to construct a courthouse had been approved and projects would start early 2026.

He said proposals to the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and GCB Bank to solicit for support to rehabilitate and expansion its infrastructure was in the pipeline for approval.

He urged members to view decisions emanating from the House as collective and urged them to rally behind such decisions towards forging a common front.
He complained of non-existence of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) School in the region and appealed for at least one to be constructed.

The House appealed to the government to promptly pay their allowances as a motivation to discharge their duties to the state.

as the 100th member.
